A. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE B.SC. IN: Animal & Environmental biology
Admission Requirements (UME Admissions)
Admission is through the Joint Matriculation (JME) for the B.Sc. Animal & Environmental biology degree programme. The candidate should.
1. Have completed a full course of training in a secondary school or in an approved institution of equivalent status.
2. Reach age sixteen or above on the first day of the month in the year of their candidature.
3. Posses one or more of the following qualifications.
(i) The School Certificate or General Certificate of Education, Ordinary level with passes at credit level in at least five subjects obtained at not more than two sittings.
(ii) The Teacher’s Grade II Certificate with credit/merit in at least five subjects obtained at not more than two sittings (subject to University requirements).
(iii) The five subjects specified in 4 (a) and (b) should include English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Direct Entry Admissions
Applicants with one of the following qualifications may be considered for admission by Direct Entry.
(i) Two passes at Advance Level with SC/GCE ‘O’ level credit in three subjects at not more than two sittings.
(ii) Passes in two major subjects (one being biology) in the NCE with GCE ‘O’ level credit or equivalent in three other subjects.
No subject should be committed at both Ordinary and Advance level.
B. Master’s Degree M.Sc. in Parasitology, Entomology and Hydrobiology
Admission Requirements
Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree in Entomology
Admission shall be open to candidates with at least second class honours degree with at least 3.00/5 in Zoology, Veterinary Science, Agriculture (Animal Science, and Crop Science), Health Science and Biology from the University of Uyo and any other University recognised by the Senate of the University of Uyo. Such a candidate must have taken courses in Entomology at the undergraduate level.
Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree in Parasitology
Admission shall be open to candidates with at least second class honours degree with at least 3.00/5 in Zoology, Veterinary Science, Health Science, and Biology from the University of Uyo and any other University recognised by Senate of the University of Uyo. Such a candidate must have taken courses in Parasitology at the undergraduate level.
Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree in Hydrobiology
Admission into the M.Sc. in Hydrobiology shall be open to candidates with at least second class Degree honours with at least 3.00/5 in Zoology, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Agriculture, and Biology from the University of Uyo and other University recognised by the Senate of the University of Uyo. Such a candidate must have taken courses in Limnology, Hydrobiology, and Fisheries at the undergraduate level. However, candidates with Postgraduate Diploma in Hydrobiology, Fisheries/Aquaculture, or Environmental Management, may also be considered provided they have a good background in Zoology.
C. Doctorate Degree Ph.D. in Parasitology, Entomology and Hydrobiology
Admission Requirements
The Ph.D. programme is open to candidates with Master’s degrees in Entomology, Hydrobiology and Parasitology from the University of Uyo, or any other University recognised by the Senate of the University of Uyo. Only candidates with an average score of 60% or above in the M.Sc. degree may be admitted. Notwithstanding the above, candidates must satisfy the ‘O’ level requirement of the University of Uyo.
