UNIUYO GETS ACTING REGISTRAR, MR. LINUS T. OKOKO

The 9th Governing Council of the University of Uyo led by Barr. (Mrs) Bernedette N. Nwachukwu has approved appointment of Mr. Linus Thomas Okoko as the Acting Registrar of the University of Uyo, Uyo. Mr. Okoko took over from the 7th Substantive Registrar, Mr. Aniediabasi Udofia whose tenure ended on August 31, 2022. The Acting Registrar assumed office on September 1, 2022. Before his appointment as the Acting Registrar of the University, Mr. Linus Okoko was the Head of Administration in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.

A BRIEF PROFILE OF MR. LINUS THOMAS OKOKO

Mr. Linus T. Okoko was born on November 29, 1960 in Essene, Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. He attended St. Peter and Paul’s Primary School, Essene, Ikot Abasi Local Government Area where he obtained the First School Leaving Certificate in 1970. For his Secondary education, Mr. Okoko went to Akama Vocational Commercial School, Essene where he obtained GCE Ordinary Level in 1979. In his quest for more knowledge, Mr. Okoko attended the Civil Service Training Centre, Calabar, Cross River State from 1979 – 1980. As a man who believes in self-development, Mr. Linus Okoko further his education at the Polytechnic, Calabar where he obtained National Diploma in Secretarial Administration with Upper Credit Level in 1983. Between 1988 and 1994, Mr. Okoko attended the University of Cross River State now University of Uyo where he bagged B.Sc (Ed.) Business Education (2nd Class Upper Division).

This astute administrator joined the services of the erstwhile University of Cross Rivers State in January, 1985. He rose through the ranks and served in different capacities within and outside the University of Uyo.

The Acting  Registrar before his  recent  appointment  had served as the Head of Administration in the  Registrar’s Office, between January, 2001 and May, 2009; Deputy Registrar/Head, Senior Administrative and Technical Staff Unit,  Directorate of Human Resources, June, 2009 to June, 2012; Deputy Registrar/Faculty Officer, Faculty of Engineering from July, 2012 to August, 2013. As a result of his excellent and result-oriented performance, this amiable technocrat was given Sabbatical Appointment by the Akwa Ibom State University, Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin as Deputy Registrar/Head of Establishments Division between September, 2013 and August, 2014.

On his return to the University of Uyo, he was posted to the Vice-Chancellor’s Office as Deputy Registrar/Head of Administration from January, 2015 where he served till August, 2022. Mr. Linus Okoko has a singular and very rare privilege of serving three substantive Vice-Chancellors in the University, Professor Comfort M. Ekpo, Professor Enefiok E. Essien, SAN and Professor Nyaudoh Ndaeyo without any blemish, which speaks of his dedication, loyalty and committed service to the system.

This versatile and astute University Administrator has served the University of Uyo creditably since his appointment. He has performed other responsibilities in the University which include serving either as a Member or Secretary in several University Committees. Mr. Okoko is also a Member of many Professional Bodies such as Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) (NIM) and Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA). He has attended many senior Management and Administrative Conferences, Workshops and Seminars organized by Centre for Management Development, etc.

Mr. Linus T. Okoko is married and the marriage is blessed with children.
