CHEMICAL AND PETROLEUM ENGINEERING PROGRAMME WITH ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
(a) Bachelor’s Degree, B.Sc. in Chemical & Petroleum Engineering
Admission Requirements:
Admission into programme is done through the joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), by Direct Entry and Mature Student Programme. University/Departmental Requirements: West African School Certificate (WAEC), General Certificate of Education (GCE) at ordinary level, Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE), National Examination Council (NECO) or its equivalent with at least credits in FIVE (5) SUBJECTS, IN NOT MORE THAN TWO SITTINGS, which must include English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
Admission Through Universities Matriculation Examination (UME):
Candidates seeking through the Universities Matriculation Examination (UME) should satisfy both the University and Departmental requirements, and perform satisfactorily in the Universities Matriculation Examination conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Admission By Direct Entry:
Candidate seeking admission into the University by direct Entry should posses, in addition to Ordinary Level Requirements, one of the following:
(i) General Certificate of Education (GCE) at Advanced Level in Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry;
(ii) Ordinary National Diploma (OND) at Upper Credits Level in relevant Engineering/Technology discipline from recognize Institutions;
(iii) Higher National Diploma (HND) at Upper or lower credit level in relevant Engineering/Technology discipline from recognized Institutions; or
(iv) Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology from recognized Institutions. Admission through the Mature Student Programme. This mode of admission is usually allowed for mature persons who show evidence of motivation and ability to benefit from the programme of the University. Such persons should not be less that 35 years of age and should have a maximum of 15 years of continuous service in an area relevant to the proposed course of study.
(b) Postgraduate Diploma, PGD. in Chemical Engineering,
Admission Requirements on a full-time basis
1. Candidates with Bachelor’s Degrees not below Second Class Lower Division in Engineering other than Chemical Engineering or relevant Sciences from recognised institutions.
2. Notwithstanding 1 above, candidates must possess the basic requirements for admission into the Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Programmes of the University of Uyo.
(c)Master of Engineering Degree, M. Eng. Chemical Engineering in: * Advanced Chemical Engineering * Environmental Process Engineering * Chemical Process Design * Petroleum Processing Engineering * Biochemical Engineering

Types of Admission
There are two types of admission, full time (FT) and part time (PT).
Full Time Admission:
Full time admission is offered only to candidates who can satisfy the University that they are not in employment, or that they have received approval of their employers to undertake full time studies. Candidates who are found to have violated this condition shall be asked to withdraw from the University.
Part Time Admission
Candidates shall be admitted to part time studies if they are members of staff of the University or in other employment where they require a higher degree to enhance their performance and knowledge. All part time candidates shall be required to submit evidence that they will devote a good proportion of their normal working year to their studies.
Eligibility for Admission
The M. Eng. Programme shall be open to candidates with the following qualifications:
The Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering (or closely related field of engineering) of the University of Uyo or other recognised Institutions of Higher Learning with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division with a GPA of 2.75 on a scale of 5.00. For those prospective students with degrees in engineering fields other than Chemical Engineering, a special course programme (usually a post-graduate diploma) will be tailored for hem to provide an appropriate background.
(1) Bachelor’s degree from a recognised Institution plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Chemical Engineering of the University of Uyo or other recognised Institutions of Higher Learning.
(2) Notwithstanding 1 and 2 above, candidates must posses the basic requirements for admission into the Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Programmes of the University of Uyo.
(d) Doctorate Degree, Ph.D. Chemical Engineering, in the areas of potential strength and interest of the Department which include the following:
(a) Reaction Engineering and Catalysis
(b) Process Synthesis and Simulation
(c) Separation Processes
(d) Environmental Emissions Reduction
(e) Petroleum Processing Engineering
(f) Process Optimization
(g) Biochemical Engineering etc.

(1) The Ph.D. Programme shall be open to candidates with the Master of Science (M.Sc.) or Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree in Chemical Engineering or its equivalent from the University of Uyo or from any other recognised institutions with a average score of not less than 60%.
(2) Candidates shall also have to fulfill the general requirements for admission as stipulated in the University of Uyo Postgraduate School Brochure.
(3) Notwithstanding 1 and 2 above, candidates must possess the basic requirements for admission into the Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Programmes of the University of Uyo.
