About the Department

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Estate Management commenced academic activities in 1996/1997 session with about seven (7) students and three part-time Lecturers which included Mr. E. S. Akpan, Mr. Francis P. Udoudoh, and Mr. Edeghe P. Edeghe.

The Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON), the professional body regulating the training and practice of the profession, visited the department for the first time in 1999/2000 academic session and granted the department a one (1) year provisional accreditation status. Mr. F. O Nwanekezie was appointed has the pioneer Ag. Head in August 2000 after the ESVARBON accreditation.

The Department has since inception made progress in academic attainment and is currently running M.Sc and Ph.D programmes and has graduated more than Ten (10) M.Sc and One (1) Ph.D Holders.
In 2014/2015 session, ESVARBON re-visited The Department and granted it a full accreditation status for a period of five years that will lapse in 2019/2020 session. The National Universities Commission Accreditation Team also visited the Department in 2014/2015 session and granted a full accreditation status for a period of five (5) years that will also lapse in 2019/2020. The Estate Management programme is designed to provide a sound basis in the many facets of the real estate profession.

It places property in a wider business context, and explores the relationship between property and economics, financial markets and institutions, corporate finance, investment and marketing.
