PROFILE: DR. EMMANUEL ESSIEN BASSEY,ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR AND HEAD OF DEPARTMENT

Dr. Emmanuel Essien Bassey is an Associate Professor in Plant  Breeding and Genetics and Head of Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Uyo. He joined the service of the University on 1st June, 2000 as Assistant Lecturer and his appointment was confirmed on 31st May, 2002.

 Dr. Bassey received BSc (Ed) Hons in Agriculture (Second Class Upper Division) from University of Cross River State, Uyo, Nigeria in 1992 and MSc Crop Science (Plant Breeding and Genetics) in 1997. He later proceeded to Michael Okpara University, Umudike, Abia State, Nigeria, where he bagged Ph.D (Plant Breeding and Genetics) in 2008.

He teaches courses in Plant Breeding, Genetics and Biotechnology at Undergraduate, M.Sc. and Ph.D levels in the Departments of Crop Science, and Forestry and Wildlife, Faculty of Agriculture and Department of Botany and Ecological Studies in Faculty of Biological Sciences, University of Uyo. He has published 49 papers in reputable journals, 38 referred conference papers, 13 Book Chapters and three books. His scholarly publications are indexed in Google Scholar, ResearchGate and others. He has supervised 35 undergraduate, 3 M.Sc. and 4 Ph.D students’ projects.

 Dr. Bassey is editor to many journals, and member of many professional bodies and fellow of two professional bodies. He is a research scientist/collaborator in Root Crops with National Root Crops Research Institute, Umudike. He has served as internal and external examiner to many Departments and Institutions, respectively. Dr. Bassey has been trained on Plant Biotechnology, Aerial Surveying and Photogrammetry, Examination Ethics and Climate Change, among others.
