B.A (Ed) English FIVE LONG VACATION DEGREE PROGRAMME (SANDWICH DEGREE)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS INTO THE PROGRAMME B.A (Ed) English
ADMISSION THROUGH UME (Universities Matriculation Examination)
The following requirements must be met to qualify one for admission into the B.A (Ed) English degree programme:
(1) Senior Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent with at least credit passes in five subjects including Mathematics, English language and Literature in English respectively at not more than two sittings.
(2) Satisfactory performance in the Universities Matriculation Examination (UME) conducted by JAMB.
(3) Satisfactory performance in the Post-UME screening by the University of Uyo.
ADMISSION BY DIRECT ENTRY
Candidates seeking admission into the B.A (Ed) English degree programme by Direct Entry should possess, in addition to Ordinary Level requirements, one of the following:
(1) General Certificate of education at Advanced level in at least two relevant subjects
(2) Nigeria Certificate of education (NCE) with a minimum of merit in English Language
from a recognized institution. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS INTO THE PROGRAMME B.A (Ed) Efik-Ibibio
ADMISSION THROUGH UME
(1) At least five credit at not more than two sittings in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination or its equivalent including English Language, Mathematics and Literature in English.
A credit pass in Nigerian language will be an advantage though not mandatory.
(1) and 3): Same as for the B.A (Ed) English programme.
ADMISSION BY DIRECT ENTRY
(1) At least two passes at the GCE Advanced Level or its equivalent with three other subjects at the GCE Ordinary Level including English Language.
(2) At least a merit in Efik-Ibibio at the NCE from a recognized institution.
Candidates seeking admission into the B.A (Ed) Efik Ibibio degree programme by Direct Entry should possess in addition to the above requirements at least three other subjects at the Ordinary Level GCE including English Language.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS INTO THE PROGRAMME B.A (Ed) Fine Arts
ADMISSION THROUGH UME
(1) A student must possess in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination or its equivalent a minimum of five credits including English Language, Mathematics and Fine Arts at not more than two sittings.
(1) and 3): Same as for the B.A (Ed) English Programme
ADMISSION THROUGH DIRECT ENTRY
(1) At least two passes including Fine Arts at the GCE Advanced Level or its equivalent with three other subjects at the GCE Ordinary Level including English Language.
(2) National Diploma in Fine Arts (Higher Credit) with three other subjects at the GCE Ordinary Level including English Language.
(3) At least a merit in Fine Arts at the NCE Level from a recognized institution plus at least three other subjects at the GCE Ordinary level including English Language.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS INTO THE PROGRAMME B.A (Ed) French
ADMISSION THROUGH UME
(1) A Student must possess in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination or GCE examination Ordinary Level five credits including English, Mathematics and French at not more than two sittings.
(2) and 3): Same as for the B.A (Ed) English Programme
ADMISSION BY DIRECT ENTRY
i. A ‘Merit’ grade or above in French in the Proficiency Certificate programme examination from the University of Uyo (4 year programme).
ii. A ‘Merit’ grade or above in French in the NCE examination (3 year programme).
iii. A ‘C’ grade or above in French at the GCE advanced Level examination (3 year programme).
Direct Entry candidates should possess in addition to the above requirements at least three other subjects at the Ordinary Level GCE including English Language.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS INTO THE PROGRAMME B.A (Ed) History
ADMISSION THROUGH UME

(1) A student must possess in the Senior secondary School Certificate Examination or its equivalent five credits including English Language, Mathematics and History at not more than two sittings.
(2) and 3): Same as for the B.A (Ed) English Programme.
ADMISSION BY DIRECT ENTRY
(1) At least two passess at the GCE Advanced Level or its equivalent in relevant subjects plus three other subjects at the GCE Ordinary Level or its equivalent including English Language.
(2) A “merit” grade or above in History and two other subjects (including Education) in NCE obtained from a recognized institution. This must be backed up with five credits in Ordinary Level papers including English language.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS INTO THE PROGRAMME B.A (Ed) Music
ADMISSION THROUGH UME

(1) A student must possesd in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination or its equivalent five credits including English Language and Mathematics at not more than two sittings.
(2) and 3): Same as for the B.A (Ed) English Programme.
ADMISSION THROUGH DIRECT ENTRY (1) At least passes at the GCE Advanced Level or its equivalent in relevant subjects plus three other subjects at the GCE Ordinary Level or its equivalent including English Language.
(2) A “merit” grade or above in Music and two other subjects (including Education) in NEC obtained from a recognized institution. This must be backed up with five credits in Ordinary Level papers including English language.
(3) Pass at Grade V or above in Local Examination in Music of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools in Music (ABRSM) or other comparable bodies.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS INTO THE PROGRAMME B.A (Ed) Religious Studies
ADMISSION THROUGH UME

(1) At least five credits at not more than two settings in the Senior School Certificate Examination or its equivalent including English Language, Mathematics and Religious Studies
(2) and 3): Same as for the B.A (Ed) English Programme.
ADMISSION THROUGH DIRECT ENTRY
(1) At least two passes at the GCE Advanced level or its equivalent with three other subjects at the GCE Ordinary Level including English Language.
(2) At least a merit in Religious Studies at the NCE from a recognized institution, in addition to credit in at least three other subjects obtained at the GCE Ordinary Level including English Language.
CONTINUING EDUCATION DEGREE PROGRAMME (Part-time)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS INTO THE PROGRAMME B.A (Ed) English

Same as for the B.A (Ed) English degree full-time Programme in respect of the 5 year degree Programme. In addition, a candidate must obtain an acceptable score in the School of Continuing Education Examination.
The requirement for a 4 year Programme is the same as for those in the regular (full-time) Programme admitted by Direct Entry.
SANDWICH DEGREE PROGRAMME
UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION ARTS DEGREE PROGRAMMES (PART-TIME)
FIVE LONG VACATION DEGREE PROGRAMME
A candidate must possess in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination or its equivalent, a minimum of five credits. He/she must also gave credit in English Language, Mathematics and Literature in English respectively. Teacher Grade Two Certificate (TC-II) is also accepted as a basic requirement for the non-secondary school attendants. In addition to the above basic requirement, a candidate must be a holder of the NCE (Nigeria Certificate in Education) with specialization in English and Education at credit or merit level passes from a recognized institution.
MASTER’S DEGREE IN CURRICULUM STUDIES (Full-time)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

1) A candidate for admission into the programme shall be:
a) A graduate of the University of Uyo.
b) A graduate of any other University recognized by the Senate of the University of Uyo.
c) A holder of a recognized Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE).
2) A candidate for a Master’s Degree programme shall possess NOT LESS THAN a Second Honours Degree in the Lower Division.
3) Candidates offered admission under Requirement 1 (b) and (c) above shall be required to forward along with an application, evidence in the form of a certified academic transcript from their former University and three letters of reference from their former teachers testifying to their suitability for postgraduate study. Such applications must in the first instance, have been considered and recommended by the Faculty of Education Postgraduate Committee to the Postgraduate Board for approval.
4) In cases where Requirement (3) above is breached, any admission purported to have been offered shall be null and void.
DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY DEGREE IN CURRICULUM STUDIES (Full-time)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

An applicant for admission into the doctoral degree programme in Curriculum Studies shall normally be:
1) A graduate of the University of Uyo or of any other University recognized by the Senate of the University of Uyo who possesses a Master’s Degree with a course examination average and thesis score which shall not be less than 60% (B).
2) In exceptional cases, long serving and mature members of the academic community with a Master’s Degree and a creditable research record, and course work average not less than 60% (B) shall be eligible for consideration. In such cases the staff member should have had not less than 5 years teaching and research experience after the Master’s Degree.
3) Requirement 3 in respects of admission requirements for the M.Ed Degree above shall also apply.
MASTER’S DEGREE IN EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT AND PLANNING (Full-time)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

1) A candidate for admission into the programme shall be
a) A graduate of the University of Uyo.
b) A graduate of any other University recognized by the Senate of the University of Uyo.
