10TH UNIUYO GOVERNING COUNCIL HOLDS ITS 103RD MEETING
The 10th Governing Council of the University of Uyo held its 103rd meeting from Monday, 26th to Wednesday, 28th May, 2025, at the Council Chamber, Main Campus, Nwaniba, Uyo
All members of the Council were in attendance, and the meeting was convened in line with Section 5 of the Act and the provisions regulating Governing Councils of Nigeria Universities. In accordance with the law, and in the absence of the Pro-Chancellor, the members unanimously appointed Professor Hauwa Biu to preside as Ag. Chairman of the Governing Council of University of Uyo, pending the appointment of a new Pro-chancellor. She discharged this responsibility with commendable excellence.
The cited provision states:
“If the Pro-Chancellor is not present at a meeting of the Council, the members present at the meeting may appoint one of them to be the Chairman at that meeting; and subject to Section 5(6) of this Act and the provisions of this paragraph, the Council may regulate its own procedure”.
During the three-day deliberations, the Council addressed several crucial matters concerning the growth and development of the University. Notable among the resolution were:
- Approval was given to all cases of promotions presented by the Directorate of Human Resources.
- Approval of the advertisement of the vacant position of the Vice-Chancellor and other key positions on Acting capacity.
- The Inspection of ongoing projects across the campus to assess progress and ensure alignment with institutional goals.
